What I Shoot and Why

I am sitting in a seminar on travel photography and it is making me think about what I shoot and why.  I do shoot some travel photography but it is not my primary focus.  My primary focus and passion is concert and music photography.  It is funny I have had various portfolio reviews of my concert work and it is strong, at least this is what I have been told by actual working photographers.

Thus far my travel photography is not going over as well in the class.  I am not sure what my issue is but I am just not feeling it this trip.  I am in one of my favorite places to be but still my photographs are not what I want them to be.  I think partly because it is so cold and no matter what I do I cannot stay warm while shooting.  Of course I am in New Orleans the week of the Polar Vortex.  Sure it was 70 degrees last week and it was 70 degrees when I was hear the same week last year.  So today there was a sunrise shoot and it was 30 degrees out.  This may not seem bad to many people but a few things to keep in mind.  1.  Standing outside for 2 hours this ends up being bone chilling and 2. I live in Las Vegas it is 70+ degrees there right now and I don't even own a winter coat.  I am living here with an assortment of hoodies and fleece jackets worn multiple at a time.  I look like I shopped from the wardrobe closet of the movie 8 mile.  But this is not about fashion it is about photography.

My goal is to leave with a handful of quality images that I can add to my website or possibly to a photo book.

The first shoot is down on to the next.  Unfortunately it is not going to get any warmer while I am hear.  I guess I have to buy some wither clothes if I plan on doing photo shoots!
